Bestowal dialogue

'The Orcs by the gate had feigned death, and as I passed by with Aragorn they leapt onto me, dragging me to the stones. I was overcome by their grasping arms, and would have perished were it not for my heroic friend here. I speak of Gimli, the staunchest dwarf I have ever met! I did not know he was with us in the battle, but at my time of need he charged from the shadows and felled the Orcs that pinned me.

'Speak to him and see if there is anything he lacks, and it will be his.'

Background

Saruman's attack on Helm's Deep continues, and the battle is beginning to take its toll on the fortress and on its defenders.

Objective 1

  • Talk to Gimli by the postern gate

It is after midnight at Helm's Deep.

Gimli is by the postern gate, below the north-west tower.

Éomer: 'Speak to Gimli and let him know I am grateful for his assistance beyond the gate.'
Gimli: 'I followed Éomer and Aragorn not for hope of glory, but only to shake the sleep from my eyes! The wild-men seemed rather too large for me, so I sat beside a stone and watched their swordplay. When Éomer ran afoul of the Orcs I could not stand idle! If he wishes to repay me the favour, I am certain he will have opportunity enough as the night progresses!
'My count now is two! I must tell Legolas, and see how he fares. But he is a fighter. That minstrel of the King's, the one who travelled with you for a time... Gléowine? You should find him and tell him how the battle progresses. He will need to make a song of this, if we survive the night. Make certain he knows how I saved Éomer by the causeway! It would be a shame if he did not include a verse or three about that.'

Objective 2

  • Talk to Gléowine by the map table west of the Hornburg

It is after midnight at Helm's Deep.

Gimli has asked you to check on Gléowine by the map table west of the Hornburg.

Gimli: 'How does the King's minstrel fare? He is not a warrior like us, and we should keep his mood in mind.'
Gléowine: 'How goes the battle? It is said that the finest warriors can tell the number and strength of an enemy force simply by listening to the sound of their cries and their weapons, but it is not so with me. I am no warrior, and to me the sound of battle is a tumult without meaning.
'The barrel of swords got knocked over in the confusion. Could you take some time to set it back upright? Then you should enter the Hornburg and speak with Théoden my master.'
Interacting with the tipped-over barrel near Gléowine will allow time to pass. Action will resume in the hours before dawn, with the next onslaught of the enemy.

Objective 3

  • Set the tipped barrel near the western wall upright, and time will pass

Gléowine wants you to set the fallen barrel of weapons upright.

Interacting with the tipped-over barrel near Gléowine will allow time to pass. Action will resume in the hours before dawn, with the next onslaught of the enemy.

Gléowine: 'Set the tipped barrel upright and gather up the fallen weapons.'
You set the barrel upright and replace the fallen weapons where they belong

Objective 4

In the hours before dawn, the forces of Saruman press their advantage.

Théoden King is outside the Hornburg.

Théoden: 'The night wears on, and the enemy shows no sign of relenting. We have lost many men on the wall, but for each loss we claim a dozen enemy lives. This is not a favourable exchange for us, <name>, though it speaks well of our fighting prowess. We will run out of defenders well before Saruman's forces tire of the fight.
'We must defend the Deep! Rally our soldiers, and fight back for as long as you are able!'
There are two ways to participate in the defence of the Deeping-coomb. You can speak to Háma for the Storied Tale, a story-focused experience. Or you can use the Epic Battles Panel for a more gameplay-intensive experience.
To participate in the defence of the Deep, open the Epic Battles Panel and select 'Defending the Deep' from the menu. After you successfully complete the defence, you will be returned to the location from which you entered it.

Objective 5

In the hours before dawn, the forces of Saruman press their advantage.

Háma: 'I cannot leave the king's side, nor would I! But we have need of swords in the Deeping-coomb, <name>! Go with Aragorn and keep the Orcs from passing through the hole in the wall! They may have brought more such blasting devices with them!'

Objective 6

  • Talk to Aragorn on the second level, outside the Hornburg

In the hours before dawn, the forces of Saruman press their advantage.

Aragorn is on the second level, outside the entrance to the Hornburg.

Théoden: 'The Orcs brought foul sorcery of Saruman with them! The wall is breached!'
Aragorn: 'That explosion destroyed much of the Deeping Wall! Many of our allies may be dazed or wounded by the blast, and even if they still survive they will not last long.
'We must get to the breach quickly! Make for the first level, and hurry east to the breach in the wall to do what you can!'

Objective 7

  • Find the breach in the Deeping Wall
  • Defeat attacking uruks at the breach (0/6)
  • Talk to Sigferth by the breach

In the hours before dawn, the forces of Saruman press their advantage.

Aragorn wants you to hurry to the breach in the Deeping Wall, east of the Hornburg, and help the survivors in the aftermath of the blast.

Aragorn: 'Quickly, we must get to the breach! Make for the first level, and hurry east to the breach in the wall, there to do what you can!'
Sensing victory, Saruman's forces muster just beyond the breach
Sigferth: 'The blast knocked me down, <name>, even from such a distance. Béorcla and Fisc were not so fortunate. They were much closer. Foul craft of Saruman!
'We must retreat! There are too many, and they will be through the breach and upon us in no time!'

Objective 8

  • Talk to Aragorn on the second level, outside the Hornburg

In the hours before dawn, the forces of Saruman press their advantage.

Aragorn is on the second level, outside the entrance to the Hornburg.

Sigferth: 'You have to retreat! The Orcs have breached the wall!'
Aragorn: 'I have still not found Gimli, but I heard tell that he might have been pushed back to the Glittering Caves during the fighting. He is a staunch fellow, but the fighting is very heavy around the caves.'
