Bestowal dialogue

'Still here, are you? Well, I suppose if you are of an inquisitive nature like Mr. Bilbo himself, I'll let you in on something he said to me afore he disappeared forever.

'Old Bilbo, he said (with a sparkle in his eye) that his adventure would continue on even after he was long gone. That was Mr. Baggins, for you.

'Well, I'll not get in your way. Help yourself to look over his last letter for us, which my son Sam read to me. It has some particular instructions regarding that Sackville-Baggins....'

Background

Bilbo left a letter to the inhabitants of his beloved Shire in the hands of Hamfast Gamgee, affectionately known by neighbours as the Gaffer.

NOTE: This quest will be removed from your quest log when the event it is associated with ends.

Objective 1

The Gaffer stands outside of his home on Bagshot Row.

You should ask the Gaffer if you can show Bilbo's letter to Lobelia.

Gaffer Gamgee: 'You want to bring this letter to Lobelia, eh? Be my guest. It won't do a whit of good sitting here with me, you know.'
You have acquired Bilbo's parting letter

Objective 2

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is up at Bag End, north of the Party Tree upon the Hill.

You should bring Bilbo's parting letter to Lobelia, for it may give some insight into the locked cellar of Bag End.

Gaffer Gamgee: 'If you're looking for that old weasel Lobelia, she's a few steps north of here. You can surely find her at Bag End, quarrelling about anything she can think of.'
Lobelia Sackville-Baggins: 'What is that envelope you have there? Give it here at once! I am sure Bilbo meant for the successor of Bag End to have it, and not that fool old gardener. Indeed no; I don't believe he even knows how to read.'

Objective 3

  • Prod Lobelia for information

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is up at Bag End, north of the Party Tree upon the Hill.

You should talk to Lobelia about Bilbo's letter.

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins: 'I'm reading the letter. Leave me be! How is a hobbit to concentrate with annoying folk badgering them all day?
'If it does not say anything about that cellar, I swear, I shall be positively furious!'
Lobelia obviously wants to keep Bilbo's treasures all to herself

Objective 4

  • Prod Lobelia for information

Lobelia is taking too long to read the letter. You should prod her for information.

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins: 'Don't pester me! I'm reading. That Bilbo sure knows how to prattle on about nothing.'
Lobelia continues reading greedily (she is very unhelpful)

Objective 5

  • Prod Lobelia for information

Lobelia is taking too long to read the letter. You should prod her for information.

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins: 'Shoo! If you don't leave me alone, I shall report you to the authorities!'
Lobelia shoos you away and continues reading

Objective 6

  • Prod Lobelia for information

Lobelia is taking too long to read the letter. You should prod her for information.

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins: 'What's this about a spoon? He left me the silver spoons...he says they are the key to the cellar!'
Lobelia looks confused by the spoon reference
