Just gave this a quick spin today to see how it held up compared to your sample images from the Contributors' Corner, and wanted to point out (if you haven't seen so yet) that a lot of the sections on the preferences page still need styling. I'm glad you enjoy doing this stuff, hahah, 'cause it sure seems like a lot of work! (And if/when I ever get around to it, we are definitely stealing your logic for the altRows tables; I'd been meaning to do that for a while since it depends on JS currently.) (Just saw this now, heh).
They're somewhat usable now, still need to think of what I'll do with the tabs :P
I find it fun, putting aside the fact that its kind of annoying when something doesn't work out/you find that something that seemed like an obvious feature doesn't exist and you wasted your time trying to make it work (ugh, z-index, why?!...).
Really? I thought it was css only. I spent a lot of time searching about it when made one for the first time, after I finally found one that worked on css I was actually surprised at how simple it was compared to all the others I had seen.
But it seems all the css needed is already there, could probably just remove the JS part.

migration of main.css

I've blanked the main.css on the webhost, hopefully you can migrate over what you need from MediaWiki:Custom.css/main.css --Lotroadmin (talk) 18:16, 22 September 2012 (EDT)

All right, thank you :) That'll certainly make the !important rules minimal and reduce the css needed.

Now this seems really odd. If you blanked the main.css, and these are the only two remaining css files... Where is the styling still coming from? I removed some of the unneeded styling, one of them being footer. Footer had a yellow border and white background. As of right now, there is nothing ordering that anywhere, yet it still is that way... (PS: I've cleared the cache, and tried in another browser that had not been used for some time, same thing, so its not that)
Is there still something that could be being loaded?

Clear Cache instructions

I noticed that the instructions on clearing your browser Cache, for Safari at least, are no longer correct.

I am trying to find out what the current instructions are, and for which browser version.

Basically, from what I can tell so far, Safari 6 changed things.

  • The previous "clear cache" option in the File menu drop-down is gone.
  • To clear the cache "in general" one must now "Show Develop menu in menu bar" checked in Safari Preferences/Advanced. Then in the "Develop" drop down, select "Empty Caches" (or use Command+Option+E)
  • The KB article: "TA24891" has been "archived" and no longer updated by Apple. This article apparently indicates an earlier instruction -- hold shift or use Cmd-R -- was no longer necessary.
  • The implication is that Safari 6 ALWAYS downloads a new copy of the page on any page refresh (not the back arrow).

I have not looked specifically at the other browsers, but a quick Google search with the phrase "safari how to bypass cache" does not come up with any "current" articles. Those with dates are all pre-2010. And only one (from Wizards of the coast) indicated any Version level information, and that for Safari. ( https://wizards.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1920/~/how-to-bypass-your-browser-cache. ) And even the wikipedia page ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bypass_your_cache#Mozilla_and_most_subclasses ) is anything but current.
