New Editor

Hi all! Going to try and bring some new progress and direction to this project. I know a few other people have been actively involved in filling in missing data and really laying out the structure - great work so far! I've definitely found this area of the Wiki helpful in my in-game travels.

I'm gonna go ahead and update this page and try to move forward on the project based on my assessment of what needs to be done and keeping with the aesthetics of the rest of the site. Far be it from me to overrule or co-opt anyone's work, but I'm not seeing much project-level direction at the moment, so I'm filling in.

Please by all means post here or on my talk page if you have any feedback, concerns, or ideas for collaboration. I look forward to working together and getting this stuff filled out in a great way! Sethladan 21:15, 11 October 2010 (EDT)

  • I'm not sure if all class deeds should be created on separated pages, they were regrouped in a column of each trait set (for example: Hunter's Trait Sets). One thing however that should be done is to put the deed information on each trait page, to know how to obtain it if someone is browsing for a specific trait. --Goingbald 23:06, 19 October 2010 (EDT)
I see what you mean, and it's something I've been thinking about - information is going to end up getting duplicated. Since individual Deeds in other categories (Racial, Regional) all have their own pages, though, I figured it'd be best to continue that pattern for the sake of standardization. Down the road, I'd like to figure out a way to transclude individual Deed information into all the places its needed (like you mentioned: the traits that reward them and the Trait Set pages). This would cut back on things needing to be updated in multiple places, and would be most logically accomplished (I think) by having the info hardwired in individual pages.
Basically, I'm trying to assert Deeds as a systematic structure independent from Traits. While the two are pretty much synonymous when it comes to class Deeds/Traits, I think there's room for both to develop separately. Sethladan 23:36, 19 October 2010 (EDT)
For practicality I have linked class deeds to the appropriate #Trait_Sets for all classes, seeing as how the current individual deed pages are either non-existing or underdeveloped. Dead links are bad. I did jump the gun somewhat and mistakenly indicate in my revision comment for Deeds that the class_Deeds subset was legacy (because I'm an idiot and didn't check here first before exerting my righteous fury on the broken links), mostly because the current state of them led me to believe they're useless. I'm not sure this idea of having separate Deeds articles is a good idea though - maintenance aside, from a user standpoint I definitely prefer them on the class page. Morstel 03:47, 20 November 2010
Hahah, righteous fury on redlinks is a good thing, so thanks for doing that. I will admit to being a little...muleheaded about this individual deeds pages thing. They exist for deeds in other categories, so the everything-must-be-standard side of me says they should therefore exist for class deeds. Since I'm not active at the moment (spending most of my free time actually playing the game, hahah) with developing the individual deed pages OR the class deed pages, there's not much point in me pouting about "I wanna do it this way," so do carry on - you're not an idiot.  :) Sethladan 16:54, 19 November 2010 (EST)
It would be nice to have all Deeds as individual pages, we just haven't gotten to everything yet ;) Feel free to make those pages. The Class Deeds can have a nice generated list of all deeds available for that class which would link to the individual deeds. Will take a bit of time and cooperation but I think we can do it! Deed Title Reconciliation

I am trying to match up deeds in lotro-wiki with what I am finding on lorebook, to help me figure out what missing from one place vs the other. There are some discrepancies between the two. I've created a spreadsheet (CSV) of my findings and categorized the results into 3 categories.

First column will say

match - exactly matched match2 - with removing of some parenthetical markers they matched nomatch - doesn't appear to match.

Can anyone help eyeball the work I've done and see if they can find any problems. Thank you.

That's quite a lot! That will take quite some time. I don't even have most of these deeds done at all. -- Starbursty (talk) 13:02, 23 November 2011 (EST)
I would be nice to have the missing deeds added to wiki, but for now I just need someone to review spreadsheet to see if I matched the stuff incorrectly, or am missing a match down in the nomatch area. That said, longterm it would be nice to
  1. add missing articles to lotro-wiki
  2. modify deed template to have a title (not article title, but a more consistent title for the deed as it appears in game so i can match up with lorebook)
Lunarwater (talk) 13:34, 23 November 2011 (EST)
I took a very quick look and see some places where our pages might not have the best names - unnecessary disambiguation, that sort of thing. Disambigs aside, our page names should generally (always?) match what's in-game. Will be happy to take a closer look after returning home from Thanksgiving holiday if you still need review then. Regional Deed revamp

  • converting all static region deed index pages into REDIRECT pages for the active category listings. If someone wants to make a deed summary page that's great but right now they are all copy/pastes from the individual deed pages themselves and that's lame and doesn't get updated. Matthew.zellmer (talk) 18:40, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
    • Why was this done? I, for one, liked the deed index pages to easily see the rewards for each of the deeds without having to click through to each one. With virtues becoming important again in Update 13, it's nice to prioritize deeds in a region. This is especially true for slayer and quest deeds, where not all the rewards are contained in the first deed tier. Lifthil (talk) 18:53, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
Good question Lifthil, the deeds are updated by LOTRO a lot but the static region index pages were neglected and out of date. On the other hand the individual deed pages are updated a lot and so are the deed categories. There are several master index pages that have what your looking for e.g. Virtue, Virtue Deeds, Virtues by Region and there are pages that house each Virtue specifically Determination Deeds, Empathy Deeds, Fidelity Deeds etc. These pages are updated a good bit. Matthew.zellmer (talk) 14:33, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

More ideas and examples at Savi at User_talk:Matthew.zellmer#Deeds Matthew.zellmer (talk) 11:46, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
So I think the work Savi is doing with deed summaries is the next generation of the static deed pages (e.g. Category:The Shire Deeds). The static index pages will be summarized and located in the category pages themselves instead of separate pages. These can then be transduced into the region pages as collapsible tables or category trees. Matthew.zellmer (talk) 14:26, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
I will work with Savi so everything is moved (in summary) from the old outdated static index pages, then updated and moved to the category pages themselves. I will ensure all links are moved as well Matthew.zellmer (talk) 14:26, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

The summary deed pages will be reintroduced, as per recent discussion Category_talk:Titles#Titles_page the category pages should not have content on them. The individual deeds does not change much nowadays, so the summary tables should not be a problem. Most of the Category pages is already using them. --Drono (talk) 11:22, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

I've run through all the regional deeds now, and moved all the tables from the category pages to article pages.

  • Transclusions have been moved correspondingly, and so have redirections (eg. Lone-lands Deeds redirects to [[The Lone-lands Deeds]] not to the category page.
  • All the tables are now a standard format, with a two line header of "... Deeds Overview" with a hide link and a second line of the 8 standard columns. Tables which were previously missing columns have had them added.
  • Some, but by no means all, transcluded tables are wrapped in {{Questbox }} which stops them from immediately overwhelming their including pages. It might be good to do this universally. It does make the hide link in the table header redundant, and also squeezes the table. Is it possible to make the questbox wider?
  • Subsections in the tables are not treated consistently. I've not attempted to change these, but to preserve the arrangement that I found.
    • Dunland Deeds uses {#ifeq:{{{transcludesection|Men of Dunland}}}|Men of Dunland| to allow subsections to be transcluded.
    • Western Gondor Deeds doesn't itself include all the deeds, but has a separate article Western Gondor Dol Amroth City Watch Deeds which is transcluded in, or can be transcluded separately.
    • Most zone pages just transclude the entire deed table for their parent regions, which is a shame.
    • Some regions list all the deeds, without division by zone. Some do, The Plateau of Gorgoroth Deeds being the most obvious (and necessary) example. (Oh, I've just discovered that there's also Gorgoroth Deeds which is interesting... (being deleted as duplicate Noddi (talk) 10:49, 16 May 2021 (UTC))
    • I have not touched Ered Mithrin and Withered Heath Deeds and Iron Hills deeds, which are given separate entries on the Deeds page. I'd suggest that these should be merged, or one changed to include the other, rather than having sepearate links in the list.
    • It's not impossible that I've missed things: I was cutting and pasting from templates, and if I forgot to edit appropriately, then my apologies!

I'll start in on the equivalents for the Instance deeds now. --Legotho (talk) 14:49, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Deed Overviews: Total rows

Hi there, some of the deed overview pages have these very helpful rows with the total numbers, others do not have them. They seem to be new and perhaps there is work in progress? I think they are very good idea and tried to unterstand the codes behind these rows, to add them to the pages where they are missing, but could not find them. So if someone is doing this already, forget my question, but if you want help with this, point me the way :) --Dathor (talk) 16:50, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
