I am in favor of separating rare and common/uncommon into different sections for better clarity and separation of differences, unless there is some reason you think its better this way. --Gwenwyfar (talk) 12:17, 26 September 2012 (EDT)

I have no very strong opinion really. There was just one "Rare" page though. The other "uncommon" pages all used the "rare" icon and was all about the "rare" variation, which was wrong from start considering having two pages.
I am quite unbiased about this split though. However, do we know what constitutes for rare and non-rare outcomes? Is it so that so called "rare recipes" never ever results from a non-rare scroll? Is "rare" perhaps a label Turbine uses for the quest-and-skirmish-camp versions but that in the end it does not matter much?
I do not know the answers. But ... if there is just one single recipe that may come from both, then the idea of splitting falls flat.
Another thought: the two types of scrolls both emit recipes, that is their true shared characteristic. For a casual visitor, having one page covering both types makes it easier to instantly see that "ooh, that recipe isonly possible to get from one of those rare ones, I'd better go visit a Skirmish camp then, rather than killing yet 1000 more goblins unsuccessfully." I mean, a table displaying possible outcomes, and one column reads "rare/uncommon/both" (if there is a "both") is way more informative than two different pages and one must click through them both.
Seen from a puristic "those are two distinctly different items, just look at their icons and 'flavor' text" I completely agree with you. So, the question is how far we want to go with this type of same-name but different-looks/outcome items? Where do we set the border for when correctness overruns pragmatism? And for sure I have no straight answer and I indeed accept we are working as a team. Though sometimes team decisions may be based on one-sided information, hence I always try to play the Devil's lawyer in discussions like these ;)

Rare recipes do drop from common/uncommon scrolls, but not the other way around.
Just to clarify one thing, though: I'm not talking about separating in different pages, but making two sections on the same page like I had made a sample earlier.
The way it is now works just fine and gives all the information we need, the thing that makes me see this as a good option is that, for someone that doesn't know much about this, it seems like it would be much easier to grasp that they are somehow different and are achieved in different ways and also easier to compare the differences than having to search for the "the rare is this, the common is that" written across the page.
I do like the idea of a table for the recipes. Since the drops are the same we could have a checkbox line (or something like that) on the side for rare/uncommon.

Do you have a link to that sample? I must have missed that in some other noise.
PS: I am 95% of the time at irc when at this wiki or playing ;)

Here. (On the actual page the tooltips will be on the right side and in their normal size).
Alright, I'll get in there then :)

No matter what, the icons of the items you receive must be correct. The rewards for bounty quests are rare scroll cases with purple icons. The drops from most mobs, but not all, are uncommon scroll cases with greenish icons. Don't mix them up.
Originally, mobs dropped recipes. This was a pain because your bags filled up quickly with umteen different recipes. These drops were, at some point, converted to uncommon scroll case drops. The problem arose when some of us editors too hastily replaced the purple icons with the new greenish icons, neglecting the fact that the rare scroll cases had different contents than the uncommon scroll cases, and that the rare scroll cases were still offered as quest rewards and by barter. The resulting mess may not have been correctly resolved in all cases. Please make sure you do not make it worse. Make sure you eyeball those drops and rewards to confirm their current state before you go changing them because you think they should be changed. You will just make another mess like we did when the uncommon scroll cases where first introduced.

Regarding icons, absolutely, have you missed the new "generic" scroll pages for Journeyman, Expert, etc.? Use them at creature loot drop tables, and use the real scroll pages everywhere else and the icons will be correct. And rest assured, we discussed that at IRC already ;)
With the new layout it will be easy to add which recipes may come from which scroll. We were talking about a table with a column for Rare/Uncommon/Any, or do you suggest anything even more clever?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If it was discussed on IRC it is as though it never happened. There is no permanent record of the discussion. If you want to carry on a public discussion, do it on the wiki talk pages, where there is a record that is available for all to read and participate. RingTailCat (talk) 02:02, 27 September 2012 (EDT)
I said it as a remark that it was thought of and it was discussed with more than one tongue and two ears :-)

Incomplete?

I noticed Item:Opal Bracelet Recipe isn't listed but Item:Opal Necklace Recipe is. Are these lists incomplete? — Kentyman (talk) 13:25, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
