Elves of Light

The Calaquendi, or "Elves of Light", were those who answered the Call of the Valar and traveled with them to Valinor. There, they saw the light of the Two Trees, which gave them their name.

Only a few Calaquendi remain in Middle-earth by the time of the War of the Ring. Galadriel is the most powerful and ancient of them. Depending on which version of Tolkien's notes one refers to, other Calaquendi in the Lord of the Rings might have included Celeborn, Glorfindel, and Gildor Inglorion.

The Calaquendi are also known as the High Elves. Dark Elves, or Moriquendi, refers to all those Elves who did not see the light of Laurelin and Telperion.
