Category talk:Item Sets

There are at least 3 sets of jewelry which do not appear in the "sets" Subcategories -- Subcategory: Anduin Jewelry (pocket, ring, earring). Mender's Focus -- Vagabond's Craft -- Exemplar's Blessing -- now that I look at the vendor, there apparently 6 sets, all with names different from the particular items.

  • Ok, so I created Category:Anduin Jewelry (Level 75) and moved the sets in. The Category page makes a stab at guessing who gets what.
  • It looks like Category:Lothlorian (Galladrim - Level xx ) and Category:Mirkwood (Malladrim - Level yy) also need to be created.
  • In addition to needing some way of aggregating these sets (and others) by area, the descriptions of those 3 sets are incomplete.

Each set enables some Skill of the same name i.e. the Skill: Mender's Focus "Enables Mender's Focus on use Skill". (The horrible syntax is Turbine's -- probably a pure "cut and paste" typo -- it's common across all of the sets.) Interestingly, LOTRO-wiki seems to be the only place that has any info on the Jewelry from Update 6. (probably because data.lotro.com is still broken.)

These things are known as "Clikies" and, apparently along with the similar Lothlorian sets, do not work in the Moors. vagabond-craft-barred-from-the-moors

  • The page Item Sets needs to be significantly updated! That I can see missing are Lothlorian (Galladrim) Mirkwood (Malladrim) and The Great River (Anduin). I would also move it to the top of the Category:Item Sets page.
  • I didn't look at the Master Item Index, but I assume it is also missing "the new stuff."

Annoying template - Item Tooltip

Most annoying... It seems that when you use the "set" parameter in the Item Tooltip template, it simply crams an entry into Category:Item Sets instead of into the appropriate sub category as indicated by the value of the parameter (or one of the other "first" to "fifth-category" values). It's no wonder the Item sets section is so screwed up.

Note that there are two different categories here: Category:Item Sets (this one) and Category:Set Items. I don't know if we need more narrow categorization in the other one - it's like Category:Feet Items or Category:Incomparable Items, I figure - just one giant folder to hold things.
The set template, on the other hand, does no categorization at all, which is probably partly why this category is so overgrown. I guess we need a proposed subcategory structure and then get to weeding things out of the top-level folder. We could then follow the same format in bringing Item Sets up to date. Obviously there's a bit of a fuzzy line/overlap between the idea of an "item set" and an "armour set," but I think the armour is pretty well covered over on Armour Sets Indexes.
One question that needs to be answered - and the same that we're dealing with over at Talk:Armour Sets Index - is if we want to keep the Helegrod/Annuminas/etc. subcategories (well, add them, rather, since only Helegord Level 65 is in so far). The sense I'm getting from the comments there is that they're still pertinent, though I think those categories should be a) kept down to setting/era only, not split up by level and b) only contain item sets, no individual items.
And of course it goes without saying that individual item sets shouldn't be appearing in this top-level category, but that's nobody's fault, just a consequence of no one coming through here with a big Category Weedwhacker. Sethladan 21:16, 2 July 2012 (EDT)

Hmmm... today I discovered a new "twist" to Item Sets -- namely those sets which do not have any specific bonus, but which are clearly intended by Turbine to be "sets" -- Again, I'm playing in the Great Playground er River area. There are multiple "sets" available as crafted armour (i.e. recipes) available from the reputation vendor.

They wind up in the massive category (I stopped counting after 800 items) Category: Medium Armour Items, where they are alphabetized under "Enduring". In the Craft Log, they are all lumped under: Category:Medium Armour (The Riders of Stangard)

One can say that they are "unfinished entries"-- i.e. only partially entered, but the entries were done back in March and only the Crit items were done, and those not "correct" - data on the tool-tip is ok, but the page info is not. There are no entries in Category:Medium Armour Items for any "Great River" items (all of the non-crit versions) so I don't know if they were just "interrupted" or ignored.

I guess I'll start out "fixing" things by creating the Category page above and making it a trahscludeable index page for the 3 parts -- Recipe, standard output and crit output.
