Is there a reason why all the freep class trait icon categories are empty? If it's just that the categorization hasn't been done, I can work on that, but I find that it's usually better to check on these things before going on an editing rampage. -- Elinnea (talk) 10:06, 18 October 2011 (EDT)

It looks like that. It would look a lot better if they would be put in their own small categories rather than staying all together in chaos in the big "Traits" category, indeed. As far as I can see Rogue has made the categories, so she is probably the person to address here. : ) --Ravanel (talk) 11:39, 18 October 2011 (EDT)

Merge?

I find it highly unlikely that all skill, effect and traits use the same icons. When did this happen? Some are shared, yes, and this has been the case for a long time and does not cause any problems: icons used for multiple sorts can be added to multiple categories, so there won't be duplicates. I will investigate this in-game. --Ravanel (talk) 16:13, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Actually, for probably the last 2-3 years, from the Rise of Isengard expansion onward, Turbine has been apparently "cutting back" - "little things" seem to simply not get done. Things that used to be seen as "placeholders" during betas have continued long into the live game. The classic example is the "Acorn" used as the dye ingredient for T8, when it made sense because they were found in Oak branches; they simply continued it into T9 but called it a Walnut! And it continues to be used in U14 (which is still T9).
At least in the U14 Beta, things like the new "Essence" are using the same icons across multiple tiers. Jewellery and armour Icons are siilarly used across a range of versions. Same icon, with a different "Quality" background.
I can only speculate on who and what have been the changes made in last years "realignment" at Turbine. I suspect that the "gorgeous" landscape artwork for U14 is contracted work. Which is another way of saying, I suspect that a large portion of the "art staff" is gone, or simply told -- work on cosmetics we can sell in the store!

Hopping by "things to do" and found this. Upon logging in and comparing trait and skill icons, I found that they often look the same on first sight, but when you look at the details, the trait and skill icons look slightly different. Trait icons usually have a border (while skill icons do not) and a different colour scheme.
Taking my captain as an example, 3 trait icons out of a total of 75 for that class are exactly the same as skill icons. Unless we decide to use the same icons for similar-looking icons (even though they are slightly different), it would be a lot of work to merge the categories with a marginal benefit. Therefore, I suggest we keep it as it is. In my opinion, the division between trait and skill icons is useful as an editor in directing me where to look for which icons.
Of course we can use the same icon for those 3 trait/skill icons of the captain that look the same. We can then pick 1 icon to use on both skill and trait pages, and place it in two categories. --Ravanel (talk) 11:40, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
